Neuronal Ensemble Coding of Spike Trains in the Hippocampus CA3 via Small-world Network

چکیده
The Hindmarsh-Rose (HR) model could describe different discharge property of an excitatory or inhibitory neuron by changing the parameter r. In this paper, HR model is used to be the dynamical equations of the spiking model neurons, and different neurons in one neuronal population are connected with WS small-world network. A neurons spiking model in the hippocampus CA3 based on small-world network is established on the Matlab platform. Spike trains of the neurons spiking model are simulated when no stimulus and a pulse current acted on the model. Then rate coding and synchrony coding are used to analyze the simulated spiking trains. Experiment results indicate when no stimulus acts on the neurons spiking model, the spike firing of hippocampus CA3 is sparse. When a stimulus acts on the neurons spiking model, the mean population firing rate increased obviously. The increasing of neurons firing rate could present the ensemble activities, which highly correlate with memory.

Characterization of spontaneous network-driven synaptic activity in rat hippocampal slice cultures
A particular characteristic of the neonatal hippocampus is the presence of spontaneous network-driven oscillatory events, the so-called giant depolarizing potentials (GDPs). GDPs depend on the interplay between GABA and glutamate. Early in development, GABA, acting on GABAA receptors, depolarizes neuronal membranes via a Cl- efflux. Glutamate, via AMPA receptors, generates a positive feedback n...

متن کاملSpike Train Timing-Dependent Associative Modification of Hippocampal CA3 Recurrent Synapses by Mossy Fibers
In the CA3 region of the hippocampus, extensive recurrent associational/commissural (A/C) connections made by pyramidal cells may function as a network for associative memory storage and recall. We here report that long-term potentiation (LTP) at the A/C synapses can be induced by association of brief spike trains in mossy fibers (MFs) from the dentate gyrus and A/C fibers. This LTP not only re...
متن کاملA neural mass model of CA1-CA3 neural network and studying sharp wave ripples
We spend one third of our life in sleep. The interesting point about the sleep is that the neurons are not quiescent during sleeping and they show synchronous oscillations at different regions. Especially sharp wave ripples are observed in the hippocampus. Here, we propose a simple phenomenological neural mass model for the CA1-CA3 network of the hippocampus considering the spike frequency adap...
متن کاملScale-free topology of the CA3 hippocampal network: a novel method to analyze functional neuronal assemblies.
Cognitive mapping functions of the hippocampus critically depend on the recurrent network of the CA3 pyramidal cells. However, it is still not known in detail how network activity patterns emerge, or how they encode information. By using functional multineuron calcium imaging, we simultaneously recorded the activity of >100 neurons in the CA3 region of hippocampal slice cultures. We utilized a ...
